Fall Sun Outages

From October 4th to October 13th, you may experience interruption in your TV service from an astronomical phenomenon called sun outages.

A sun outage is an interruption in satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. The interference is caused when the sun is in direct line with a communication satellite and the sun’s radiation overwhelms the satellite signal.

Sun outages last between 10 to 20 minutes a day. They occur between 2PM and 6PM in our area. During this timeframe you may experience interference with picture quality and sound when watching television.

You may also experience channels going out. If the outage of any channel lasts for more than 20 minutes, or if all channels are out at the same time, there may be a problem that is unrelated to sun outages. In this case, please report the outage to NEP at 866-785-3131.
